An Interview with Amy Pedersen, co-founder of Syngress
The team asked me to answer some questions about the history of Syngress for our relaunch. I must say I thought about not doing it. As many of you know, we were purchased by Elsevier two years ago. And while we love our new home, it was a tough period of integration. Taking a small publishing company that lived by grass roots marketing and home-built workflows and websites, and a home-brewed customer service plan, we found moving to Elsevier to be extremely challenging. In our first year we screwed up pretty much everything. We were so focused on internal issues that we lost touch with customers in many ways.
Information Security and Emergency Medical Records By Frank Thornton, author of Kismet Hacking
Electronic Medical Records (EMR), also known as Electronic Health Records (EHR), is a hot topic at the moment across the US, and those of us involved in information security had better be paying attention.
EMR holds the promise of helping deliver healthcare, under the premise that the better informed that a healthcare provider is, a given patient will get the most informed decisions and therefore will be delivered better health services. President Obama sees it as part of both his health care initiative and as part of the economic stimulus package. Under the stimulus package, grants for both hardware and software are being made available to hospitals and other healthcare providers to institute EMR.
Windows Forensic Analysis By Harlan Carvey, author of Windows Forensic Analysis, 2e
Windows operating systems are more complex than ever. When Windows XP was released, many forensic analysts were concerned that the new technologies and file formats employed would slow down their work and analysis time. The same concerns have held true for Windows Vista and even Windows 7. At the same time, cybercrime is no longer about joyriding on the Information Superhighway...the days of installing a Trojan so that you can open and close someone's CD tray, or take over their web cam as a joke, are over. People breaking into computer systems today very often have an economic motivation for doing so.
The only book devoted to forensic analysis of routers and switches, focusing on the operating system that runs the vast majority of network devices in the enterprise and on the Internet
Outlines the fundamental differences between router forensics and traditional forensics, a critical distinction for responders in an investigation targeting network activity
Details where network forensics fits within the entire process of an investigation, end to end, from incident response and data collection to preparing a report and legal testimony
