Welcome to the illumin8 Newsletter Issue 2 | In our current conservative economic situation, companies are looking for creative ways to do more with less. From the beginning, illumin8 has been designed to automate the search and research process for technology information and in essence, let you do more with less time. While illumin8 has been traditionally used to discover solutions to bring into an organization, the task of finding new applications for new and existing technologies will be explored in this issue. In our quest to make and keep this newsletter relevant for you, we would love to hear from you.
Tell us what you think about this issue and what you would like to see in upcoming newsletters: info@illumin8.com.

Featured Story: Where else can my technology be used?
As a researcher, it must be rewarding to know when your innovation becomes a reality and solves a problem in the world.
Sometimes, it can solve more than one problem. When a new technology is created, there is often one main application in mind for the technology. In today's climate of "more with less", companies and organizations are looking for additional revenue streams from their existing or upcoming technologies.
Here is the hard part - how do you play matchmaker and match your technology to a new application?
Innovation happens because there is a brand new unmet need or if improvements are needed to an existing solution.
We will focus on the improvements aspect of innovation to help us with our matchmaking efforts. The idea is that if you have a better widget, you should be able to approach all the people who are currently using the widget and pitch your better designed solution. The trick here is to really think about the benefits your solution has to offer and strip away any preconceived notion toward a particular application.
Take a look at an example in action with RFID technology.

As researchers develop new materials there is a continual need to identify and detail markets for them. In many segments, and particularly in engineering polymers, we can use illumin8 to identify existing applications of competitive materials and evaluate their viability as a market for a new solution.
